The Key Spouse Program is a partnership between the volunteer Key Spouse, military leadership, and the A&FRC, and is an official Air Force proram. Key Spouse is a resource within the unit to enhance communication and support for the family members by providing information and referral Leadership empowers the Key Spouse to assist with quality of life programs and services directed at family members. Unit Commanders establish and maintain the Key Spouse Program within the unit. The Unit Commander selects the Key Spouse and the A&FRC provides training.

- The program is intended to augment existing military support services and meet the emerging needs for the Active Duty Airmen, Air Guard/Reserve, and family members
- This non-medical counseling program is designed to address issues that occur across the military lifestyle and help Airman and their families cope with the normal reactions to the stressful/adverse situations created by multiple deployments and reintegration

- Advocate for the educational needs of military children and assists Airmen and families with information and referrals regarding local school districts and other educational options including home schooling, private schools, charter schools, and cyber schools.
- Ensure school personnel are aware of the unique issues impacting military children, i.e., deployment, frequent moves, etc.
