Thunderbird Inn Dining Facility
History
THE THUNDERBIRD INN DINING FACILITY
We have come
along way from our humble beginnings in 1948 when the
Thunderbird in was first constructed. In 1997 the
Thunderbird Inn was remolded to increase the size of
our serving lines and increase our menu verity. In 2002
to present the full food service contractor Vick’s
Vittles has remodeled the Serving areas and lines
again to keep up with the ever changing industry
standards and our customer demands.
The Thunderbird
Inn Dining Facility has an excellent food service
reputation. It has previously won the Gold Plate award
in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 as well
as the 1999, 2005
and 2009 Hennessy Award. Formerly, a team
of all-military personnel managed the dining facility
until the year 2001, when the contract changed from mess
attendant to a full food service contract managed by
Realizing Confidence and Independence (RCI) a National
Institute for the Severely Handicapped. Bidding for the
contract reopened in Oct 01 and the contract was awarded
to the New Mexico Commission for the Blind (Randolph
Sheppard Act) and was awarded to Vick’s Vittles headed
by CEO Robert Vick. Mr. Vick and his staff have worked
diligently to maintain the reputation of the dining
facility through excellent customer service, programs
and services, food processes, and menu planning.
